On Sunday, my boss and I had a day off, so we did the tourist thing. First stop, Waikiki Beach, which is where we would end up returning that evening.
Obligatory "hey, I'm in Hawaii" pic.
My first look at Waikiki Beach. The sun was behind a cloud, which is why it's a bit dark.
Looking west along Waikiki Beach. The beach here faces mostly south, which was screwing with me something terrible. In my SoCal mind, ocean=west.
Looking east down the beach.
The sun finally comes out. Look how blue the water is. And clear too. A bit after I took this picture, I was standing in waist deep water and could still clearly see my feet. I probably could have still seen them if I'd been in up to my neck. Where I come from, if the (green) water is up past your calves, you won't be able to see your feet. And if you're standing in the ocean off San Diego, you'll likely be freezing your ass off, even in summer. Not so in Hawaii. The water is pleasantly warm. And delightfully seaweed free.
